Baby Naming Ceremonies

Naming ceremonies cross all religious and national boundaries.  The tradition of embracing a new life as part of the community began in ancient times, when early humans believed that a child was a gift of the gods and there was no concept of exactly how the gift was bestowed.  In modern times, there is more knowledge about the process of how the tiny new life begins, but the miracle of a birth is still cause for celebration in the family and the community.  Naming ceremonies are secular (non-religious) ceremonies.  Naming ceremonies are not legally binding and do not have any legal status, although you may be presented with a record of the ceremony as a token of the day.

If, like a growing number of parents, you would like to celebrate the birth of your child but have decided against a christening, alternatives such as a naming ceremony or simple “naming day” are becoming increasing popular.
